Crusade of the Flaming Sword (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories, No 131)

The Flaming Sword Makes a Point
In this Hardy Boys book the super-sleuths track down a sabatuer who claims to be a black knight with a flaming sword. They encouter many threats and dangers along the way. This book is so full of suspence that I couldn't sleep for the next two "knights". It is a must read for all mystery lovers.

I thought that it was entertaining.
I thought it was suspenceful. It kept Me on the edge of my seat. My favorite part was when the Hardys were about to be cut in have by the pendelum.

The Demon's Den (Hardy Boys Mystery Stories, No 81)
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (October, 1986)
Author: Franklin W. Dixon
Average review score:

Best Ever!
I thought that this book wouldn't be as good as "Mystery Of Smugglers' Cove. But I was definitely wrong! "The Demon's Den" has some surprising text, teriffic, never-ending action, and the plot was totally freaky. Demons, superhumans, Old Sam, and so on. You just can't miss this one!

Thrilling book, written in an unexpected way
I think that this just about beats Mystery of Smugglers' Cove. Matter of fact, it does. Sometimes in the book there's some scary (but not bad) language. It's surprising how Franklin Dixon got this idea for this sort of writing in the book. It's also a great book on genetic engineering and science. It's amazing about Rhee doing his tricks, and the action is normal, but wonderfully done. So take the time to read this book, and you won't think there's any better Hardy Boys book (and it's true, you'll believe me). Bon Reading it! (Enjoy reading it)!

A Dictionary of the Alabama Language
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Texas Press (May, 1993)
Authors: Cora Sylestine, Heather K. Hardy, and Timothy Montler
Average review score:

Review
My friend owns this book. It was given to her by her grandfather who is a coushatta. She is learning the language and is teaching it to me because I am interested in her culture. Many times she has let me borrow the book. The book is very helpful because it has guides to help you pronounce the words.

Resourceful chronicle of my language
This dictionary is crucial chronicle of the Alabama language. It took the author Sylestine, almost fifty years to complete (Actually completed after her death). The Alabama language is a part of the Muskogeon band of languages that include: Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, Coushatta, and other tribes of the southeast. It is an essential part of my tribe's survival to preserve our culture, and our language is a crucial part in accomplishing this. The dictionary offers translations from Alabama to English( in the first half of the book) and English to Alabama ( in the second half). I recommend this book to all interested in Native languages, and those interested in the Muskogeon languages (for they are not in written form until recently). My recommendation comes from knowing Cora Sylestine (the author) for years, and also my grandmother is one of the contributing speakers credited in the book.

Dragon Tattoo Design
Published in Hardcover by Last Gasp of San Francisco (March, 1988)
Author: Donald E. Hardy
Average review score:

a must-have for tattooers wanting to get into dragon designs
even though i had expected something rather different (lots of photographs, e.g.) when i ordered this book, i cannot but agree with my fellow reviewer. another excellent item from don ed hardy's hardy marks publications.

however: i feel that this book is more for the truly dedicated dragon tattoo design enthusiast and/or tattooer.

there is a very interesting introduction about dragon design and mythology. also, there is a very interesting bibliography suggesting further reading.

the countless designs, drawings in black and white only (!), show all aspects of dragon tattoo design. very interesting and absolutely high quality work. but, as i have said before, rather aimed at specialists and tattooers. for the latter, imho, a must-have! (as most other books that have so far been published by hardy marks publications, san francisco.) it shouldn't be too hard to find a (used) copy.

Yet Another Ed Hardy Masterpiece
Dragon Tattoo Designs is a great source book for anyone interested in dragon tattoos, even if you just want to draw them. The designs are such that they will withstand the test of time and aging well. Interesting and informative also. As always the best from Hardy.

Dylan Thomas Reads
Published in Audio Download by audible.com ()
Average review score:

Mesmerizing and moving
Dylan Thomas, in spite of all the hype and misinformation and gossip, still looms larger than almost any other Twentieth Century poet (only Sylvia Plath and e.e. cummings, perhaps, are comparable). And this is all the more amazing when one considers how actually small the total of his output was. To listen to him read his poetry, though, is a profound experience. His reading of "Lament", one of his greatest poems (in my opinion), is riveting. The cadence of his rich voice, with his Welsh accent and sonorous vowels, reveling in the sheer sounds and the multifarious allusions in the meaning, is unforgettable. Now if they can remaster and issue it on CD---! But it's worth suffering the technical crudities of the recording to hear this great poet and equally great reciter.

Incredible
Listening to Dylan Thomas gives you some idea what he must have been like - on those late nights at the White Horse Tavern. These tapes of Thomas are brilliant.

The Essential Hardy
Published in Paperback by Ecco (May, 1995)
Author: Thomas Hardy

BRODSKY'S QUINTESSENTIAL HARDY
Just the commentary by Nobelist Brodsky (died 1997,God rest his untimely soul) justifies reading this book multiple times. His insight on the poet Hardy as well as monumental poems like
'Darkling Thrush' and 'Convergence of the Twain' are illuminating,
penetrating and vividly insightful. Brodsky's prose itself at times soars into poetry in motion and emotion as his genuine delight in Hardy's craftsmanship constantly bubbles to the surface of his introductory essay.

It's clear Brodsky and his hero Hardy have much in common: earthy;master noticers;poets of the suffering human condition;
a keen appreciation of what most eyes miss combined with a gift
of expressing that vision in ways that stick in mind and heart
for the duration;an understanding of 'cunning irregularity' in their mostly formal prosody, that is, not being too sing-songy or
doggerelish in rhyme/rhythm of their lines, but utilizing built-in 'speed bumps' to vary the tone and texture of their poems.

A tour de force that belongs on every poetry-lover's shelf next to their volumes of Hardy,Frost,Yeats,Housman,Masefield,Auden,
C.S.Lewis,Betjeman,Wilbur,Hecht and younger poets Timothy Steele,Dana Gioia,A.E.Stallings. Should be must-reading material
for English Lit. courses worldwide.

Wonderful introduction and analysis by Brodsky.
There is a small volume of Hardy verse collected by Russian/American poet (and, Nobel laureate), Joseph Brodsky. It is part of a series published by Ecco press -- "The Essential Poets." "The Essential Hardy," the last in the series, is a small anthology of about 100 poems. The really interesting thing about this edition is an extensive introduction (66 pages), in which the poet Brodsky analyzes in considerable depth, five of Hardy's poems. His discussion is, I think, quite brilliant and provocative. He views Hardy as a "poet's poet," and one that will, after the millennium, win a huge following. What I enjoyed the most was his gleanings of Hardy's craft -- matters of meter, imagery, and tone that might, I think, elude traditional scholars but appeal to professional poets. From subtle pictorialism in "Convergence of the Twain," to social commentary in "In the Moonlight," I found myself sensitized to Hardy's poetry in new, refreshing ways. His exuberance and insight are noteworthy, especially coming from a non-native-English writer. Brodsky's prose is lively and compelling throughout.

Sadly, though, this volume was written a year before Brodsky's untimely death. One would have wanted more from him.

Frame-Up (Hardy Boys Casefiles, No 99)
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (May, 1995)
Author: Franklin W. Dixon
Average review score:

Frame-Up
First, I must say that this is a great book, but that I think Vanessa was wrong. She said that Joe was being the jerk, when she was being the jerk. She never even asked Joe to dance with her and she was showing feelings for Billy Barta, whom I think is ugly. She must have danced about ten songs with Billy while Joe only danced for an hour. She was the jerk, sorry Vanessa. You should have apologized, not Joe. Joe has been brought up on murder charges too many times, like this one when they thought he killed Billy Barta. I think Billy deserved it, whoever did it to him. It is full of suspense and action. A must read!

Another good one
Frame-Up is one of the more original Hardy Boys books I've read. Very interesting plot twists and lots of action. Great!

Ghost of the Hardy Boys

A Must-Read For Any Hardy Boys Fan!
Leslie McFarlane was the ghostwriter of the first 20 or so Hardy Boys books but he was far more than that, as you will discover in this light-hearted autobiography.
In addition to all the details behind his writing of the Hardy Boys books, he recounts tales of Canada and his early reporting days on various newspapers in a humorous style that is a joy to read.

Fascinating account by true author of 20 Hardy Boys books
Highly recommended reading for anyone interested in the Hardy Boys. The author wrote some twenty volumes (for $125 each ! ) in the extremely popular series.
